Executive Director

School on Wheels of Massachusetts (SOWMA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the educational, social, and emotional needs of students impacted by homelessness and poverty. Our key programs include:

• Tutoring: Providing academic support to children and youth in shelters, transitional housing, and hotels.
• Mentoring: The Bridge Mentoring Program pairs high school and college-age students with mentors to guide them through post-secondary education and training.
• Backpacks & School Supplies: Delivering backpacks and grade-level school supplies and books to 11,000 students annually.

Our mission is to ensure that every student, regardless of circumstance, has the opportunity to reach their potential and become a confident, self-sustaining member of their community. We aim to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty by expanding our impact across the Commonwealth.  Together we strive to educate kids, empower families and end the cycle of homelessness – one child at a time.  

Position Overview

SOWMA is seeking a results-driven Executive Director who combines strong leadership, strategic vision, and a deep commitment to advocating for youth impacted by homelessness. The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors and be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization, including staff, programs, fundraising, fiscal management, operations, and community relations. This role requires a dynamic, mission-focused leader who can effectively manage a diverse team and engage stakeholders to achieve our goals.
