Job Summary:

In partnership with and under the supervision of our Controller, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for performing day-to-day accounting activities.  Primary responsibilities include collecting, analyzing, and verifying reporting information for financial, billing and payroll purposes. Together with the Controller, the Staff Accountant will lead and supervise the day-to-day activities of our payroll and billing staff located in our Quincy office.  

Responsibilities

  • Lead in the timely and accurate completion of monthly financial close activities, including bank reconciliation, journal entry preparation, balance sheet account reconciliations, and financial analysis
  • Manage and enforce established accounting methods and policies and propose new processes for financial improvement
  • Lead an accounting team in support of their essential duties, providing supervision and mentoring as needed
  • Support the month end and year end closing process by preparing monthly financial close workbooks
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and the performance of financial audits
  • Performs detailed analysis of activity in various General Ledger accounts including bank accounts and accounts receivable aged trial balances
  • Assist in management of internal financial information and processes
  • Prepare quarterly and annual federal and state payroll tax filings including federal form 941, state payroll tax withholding and unemployment insurance reporting
  • Work closely with the Controller to understand and ensure accuracy of all financial reporting activity
  • Serve as a back-up for payroll, billing, and accounts payable functions
  • Participating in process improvement efforts including streamlining and strengthening internal controls
  • Ad hoc reporting and performing special projects upon request


Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong Excel skills (Pivot Tables & Vlookups)
  • Experience with accounting software and ERP systems; familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics GP is a plus
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices
  • Demonstrated team leadership in a corporate accounting environment
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to work in person in our Quincy, MA office
